What is
Industry 4.0

What is Industry 4.0 and where does it come from?

Industry 4.0 is the next level of industrial development which involves the digital transformation of production / manufacturing and related industries in order to improve the value chain. The new reality means moving to a new level of organization and control of all processes in the company.

In order to achieve this goal, data collection systems, process control systems and automated management software are used. If the first two categories of instruments (data collection systems and process control systems) are fairly well represented in the market by existing solutions, there is currently a lack of automated management software thus Paradigma Suite meets this more and more stringent need.

Improving value creation processes and transforming the value curve in relation to changing market standards requires increasingly complex and comprehensive processes and analysis capabilities.

In conclusion, Industry 4.0 refers to the intelligent interconnection of processes, machinery, equipment and decision making through technology. The ultimate goal is to automate decision making, real-time performance monitoring and the employees relieving from administrative activities in order to manifest their creative side for increasing value within the organization.

undraw goals

The phases the industry went through to reach model 4.0

  1. The industrial revolution was generated by the appearance of the first automations (steam equipment) which multiplied the manual labor and increased the overall quality. This led to the increase of productivity and implicitly to the evolution of the society and also opened new horizons of horizontal development.
  2. The second major stage of industrial development was possible by the introduction of electricity and all equipment and devices which worked using the electrical power (assembly lines, lifting devices, quality control devices etc). This new evolution led to mass production and increased the accessibility of the population to increasingly complex goods resulting in a new social evolution.
  3. The third industrial leap was the era of computers and networks (WAN, LAN, MAN…). These made possible the robot assisted manufacturing processes and the improving of internet communications and of its adjacent tools, including the multiplication of trade through the online version, which was again reflected in social development by increasing accessibility to goods of all categories.
  4. In the fourth industrial revolution, which is at its beginnings, we are evolving from the collection and statistical analysis of data to automated decision-making processes based on logical decisions and managerial instruments for efficiency. This evolution is based on previous stages and new technologies (internet, big data, cloud, etc.). To take advantage of these new technologies, intelligent correlation instruments such as advanced robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and other quintessential decision-making instruments (operational management software such as the Paradigma Suite) are needed. These integrated ecosystems create multiple opportunities for innovation and the multiplication of the value curve for the customer and is the next natural step in the development of industry and services. The convergence between technology, artificial intelligence and human creativity is the next success factor in business.
The name of this new business model is Industry 4.0!

Data-based efficiency within the value chain according to Industry 4.0

As mentioned in the lines above, Industry 4.0 is conditioned by the transition to a new organizational level, control and analysis of the entire life cycle and value of our product or service. As an essential element, Industry 4.0 involves the partial or total transfer of repetitive decisions (based on data analysis) to intelligent equipment-software (cyber-physical) systems, thus multiplying the use of information from ERP systems.

Intelligent systems (cyber-physical) are the basis of new capabilities in areas such as: design, prototyping, problem diagnosis, process monitoring, innovation, planning and especially real-time operational management. Operational management is also the area of expertise of the Paradigma team - which designed and built an automated system for managing, analyzing and reporting the processes to which each software is dedicated (eg: Paradigma HR systematizes and automates the main functions of human resources management ). These automated management software are complementary to the classic data collection systems and make the most of the collected and structured data. This horizontal integration increases the efficiency of all the systems involved and increases the transparency of the data and related indicators.

These new capabilities favor the analysis of the root causes which generate decreases in key performance indicators and improves the development of customized and fully adapted solutions to the needs of each organization and especially the resolution and dynamic measurement of the implementation of decisions. The effects of using these new instruments will be: increased capacity, dynamically improved products and services, increased performance and ultimately new profitable business models.

The benefits of moving to Industry 4.0

The new approach is characterized by the increase of automation and its extension towards the managerial and decision-making process and will bring multiple changes in the way companies will organize and operate.

People with decision-making responsibilities will have more and more accurate information of the processes they coordinate. Transparency regarding activities and process performance will increase exponentially and data obtained through various tools (ERP, CRM, etc.) will be used more efficiently. As a result, managerial activity would be much simplified and improved due to the clearer and numerically quantified image of reality.

Management will be decentralized and focused on the efficiency of decisions in correlation with related processes and will generate the most useful and beneficial decisions for the organization as a whole. At the same time, each managerial decision will be personalized in a contextual manner regarding the underlying situation which generated a necessary decision.

The performance and quality of products or services will increase and will be more stable - which will translate into more value for less money and in a shorter time for the end customers.

Paradigma software system has been designed to meet all Industry 4.0 requirements and to easily integrate with other data collection and processing instruments and software (modularity principle). It also has the ability to connect different points between different existing systems and to fill the gaps which reduce the efficiency of the decision-making process. The continuous evolution of management feature will ensure continuous topicality and adaptation to everything that will appear new in the next steps of natural evolution in Industry 4.0.
